Tkhorm, a huge black beast and my old good friend, walks in the sunset field ~

Made in Blender.

Okay op first of all this is strikingly breathtaking and I can’t believe I’m not looking at a real animal oh my gods!!!!!! 😭😭😭

Secondly I need you to know it looks like my cat

Someone did this in BLENDER and threw it on Tumblr for FREE and Disney with all their custom-made cutting-edge state-of-the-art programs can’t pull off realistic water bubbles and wants you to pay twenty bucks a ticket for it.

Support unions for CG artists. This is what being allowed to have passion looks like.

I love that I could tell it had hooves even though you covered the feet in grass. Phenomenal movement work!

THIS WAS MADE IN BLENDER?????

in conversation about white people who go to Japan and expect their knowledge of anime to culturally carry them, I was once posed with “it’s like if there was a Japanese guy who was obsessed with spongebob and came over here and thought he could get by just communicating in spongebob quotes.” This is a false equivalence because if such a man existed we would crown him king. We’d love him. Americans would fucking love that. sometimes I get sad that this isn’t a real guy I can invite to a party.

Color has been disappearing from the world.

A new research group used machine learning to track color changes in common materials and items, below is their findings for all color changes over time, they used 7000+ items from the 1800s to now to determine color changes in the most common items.

image

Below are the colors of cars by year, notice how the majority of cars are grey, white, or black compared to twenty years ago.

image

These aren’t data points, but they are comparisons between the ‘modern’ homes of the 70s and 80s compared to the modern homes of today.

image
image

Carpets have equally had the same treatment of grey added to them! The most common color of carpet is now grey or beige.

image
image

Even locations that used to scream with color for decades have now modernized to becoming boring minimalist (and I love minimalism) personality-less locations.

The world is becoming colorless, why?

source paper

you can look at any folk culture around the world, past or present, and find the use of the entire color spectrum. humans are drawn to color, it holds emotional symbolism but it also reflects the land we live off of. I consider it like a celebration of life and our place in it

image
image
image

the problem is that we aren’t actually allowed to belong to the places we live. houses and entire towns are shells meant to be as plain as possible for the next renter, buyer, or investor. the more generic it is, the more consumers it can be sold to. And when you have a country that’s biggest population doesn’t have a distinct sense of cultural identity it will be reflected and mass produced without much complaint

image

people getting joy from the minimalist gray aesthetic is not the same as the estrangement this country is making between people and place, one of the most fundamental relationships humans need to survive (and be happy while doing it)

Films depict middle ages as devoid of color but it’s the other way around.

When I was buying my house, people were telling me not to paint it this or that color because it would be harder to sell later. Like, I haven’t even bough the house and you’re already telling me to sell it! I’m buying a house because I need a place to live! I want to live here until I die or manage to move to Europe! We are not supposed to actually own anything anymore. Not our houses or cars or furniture. We are supposed to be perpetually replacing these things, paying more each time around, until we break and die and our bones are the color of the walls around us.

Okay wait this brings up a point Dr. Richard D Wolff (americas leading Marxist economist) brought up in a lecture a while ago; economics needs an ethics review board.

Every other major discipline has an ethics review board. If you’re a doctor and prescribe a patient a lethal dose of the wrong medicine, you get disciplined. If you’re a biologist and commit animal cruelty, you get disciplined. If you’re a psychologist and conduct an unethical study, you get disciplined. If you’re an engineer and neglect safety standards when building a bridge, you get disciplined.

But if you’re an economist and your policies actively harm people in a demonstrable way, nothing happens. It’s all just a ‘matter of opinion’

American and other western economists advised the Russian government on how to run the country following the end of the ussr and its estimated that the economic policies they recommended directly lead to the deaths of millions of people. And not a single economist so much as even lost their job.

Economics degrees also need courses on ethics and the real human impact of economic policies so that economists can learn how to avoid harm in the first place.

Recently, one of the most famous US economists posted a tweet sternly chiding the “hysteria” people were fostering in falsely claiming that inflation was bad in the United States. He included a graph that showed that in fact, prices for most things was down!

Except for groceries and utilities. The things that people actually need for even basic survival.

He did not seem to even understand that there could be any dissonance in his statement.

At best, economists get so caught up in numbers that they lose sight of the human costs of everything involved. At worst, and indeed frequently, they actively contribute to making things worse for the people already at the biggest disadvantages.

this is because economics is a fake science. it isn’t real. it only exists to sell ideology for rich people. same for political science. they were originally one field, political economy, since all economics are political and all politics are economical. they’re inseperable. but political economists like marx said mean things about rich people so it was split into two meaningless, harmless fields that can spew propaganda with graphs and charts.

twitter/reddit/slightly-more-stubborn-twitter refugees just so you know: tumblr tags are primarily for making jokes you’re not confident in and making tenuous at best connections between random posts and whatever videogames you’re autistic about at the moment, though they can also occasionally be used to sort posts into relevant categories for future reference if you’d like

Theyre useful for tagging spoilers or content warnings too! People can filter them out that way.

My boyfriend was on the phone with his dad yesterday so I went out to sit on the patio to pet the geese and play on my phone for a bit, and while out there I came across a comic of baby Grimace (yes, that Grimace) being sad because everyone hated his milkshake and saying he wished he never had a birthday. Then there was a follow up where tons of people had commented saying they loved the shake and wished Grimace a happy birthday, and that made him happy again.

This, for whatever reason, emotionally devastated me. I was sobbing. I was ugly crying so bad that even the geese waddled away side-eyeing me.

After a while my bf yelled from inside, “Okay, you ready for dinner?” and I was forced to accept I had to go back in the house a defeated sniffly little wreck.

My boyfriend, who has only ever seen me cry once in the whole year we’ve been together, looked horrorstruck. He assumed the worst. Someone got hurt. Something was wrong with my family. Someone was mean to me (a cardinal sin). The panic that washed over his face was unparalleled.

He, upon seeing me, (somewhat theatrically) rushed over and grabbed me by the shoulders. “What’s wrong, what happened? Are you okay?” he asked, frantic. “What is it?”

I realized how ridiculous the whole situation was and just shook my head.

He was growing more panicked. “What is it? Why are you crying?”

I then had to stand there and look him, this completely normal human being, in the eyes, and blurt out “Grimace”

Confused silence followed.

“….Grimace?”

I nodded.

“…The McDonalds guy…thing?”

I nodded.

“What…what did…Grimace…do to you?”

I then tearfully recounted the silly internet comic that had absolutely broken my heart. And this poor guy–this poor, wonderfully sweet, nice, patient guy–kindly stood there trying to figure out how to comfort me that Grimace was not, in fact, sad. (Nevermind that he’s a corporate mascot who isn’t real)

This morning my phone rang just after 5am. It was my boyfriend. It was my turn to panic, to assume the worst.

I didn’t even have time to say hello before he started excitedly yelling, “Look at the TikTok I just sent you! Look! Open it!”

Confused and not entirely convinced I wasn’t still asleep, I opened the TikTok.

image

An official release from McDonalds confirming Grimace (who still isn’t real) did, in fact, feel special on his birthday.

also while we were in the car headed to dinner I remembered the little panel of Grimace crying and I got all teary eyed again, and my boyfriend looked over and, with all the genuine care, compassion, and sympathy this guy could muster, legitimately asked, “Are you having Grimace thoughts again?” which I don’t think I’ll ever let myself live down

my friend has been getting into some book called the sofia code with her friend, and it feels like some weird christian cult. do you know anything about it?

image

I wouldn’t call this a cult but this is definitely wooy bullshit.

merytu-mrytw:

*cracks knuckles* I did a read through of the Sophia dragon code for some friends and the actual content is worse.

Kaia Ra or whoever opens the book with satanic conspiracy theory, claims that if you want to practice kabbalah/indigenous ritual/etc it’s because you were jewish/indigenous in a past life and you’re entitled to it, and that Racism Is Over and Healing has to happen now. It has everything; Atlantis and lemuria, chakras, ‘quantum’ everything, appropriation of Buddhist concepts, yoga- it’s like if you simmered new-age bullshit into super-bullshit with a veneer of Instagram marketability over it.

And to make matters worse the woman herself got her start performing reiki on the elderly so that she could convince them to sign over their properties on her death bed.

As you can read here:
